Howdy, folks! I'm back with a long overdue post. I was supposed to write this several months ago but you know the deal with me. I apologize for that. hehe I actually have tons of backlogs mostly about brick events I've attended these past months. As the title suggests, today's entry will be about the MOCs at PinoyLUG's Bricktober 2018. I'm pretty sure you folks will be having a blast as you go through the awesome works displayed at the event. Let's get it on!
One of the biggest brick events last year was Bricktober 2018. Hosted by PinoyLUG, the event's main theme is inspired by the movie, Ready Player One. This is a perfect theme for Lego enthusiasts since the movie's filled with tons of pop culture references and easter eggs which can be fleshed out with their bricks and figs. PinoyLUG's MOCers actually managed to successfully recreate some of the scenes from the movie.
The Stacks
The Stacks is an iconic part of Ready Player One especially since the main character, Wade Watts, lives in one. Composed of trailers 'stacked' on each other, it is home to hundreds of players who are logged into the Oasis.
The Racetrack
This is the venue for James Halliday's first challenge in the movie. Adding King Kong as well as the DeLorean at the end of the track is a nice touch!
The Shining
PinoyLUG managed to build both the Overlook Hotel and the hedge maze both made appearances in Ready Player One. The crazy ballroom scene was also done perfectly.
Final Battle
I think this was one of the best scenes in Ready Player One especially when the RX-78-2 Gundam, Mechagodzilla and the Iron Giant appeared on screen. I'm a huge fan of M.S. Gundam and Amuro Ray's mobile suit is one of my favorite mechs. It's cool seeing it in brick form.
Aside from Ready Player One, there are other themes displayed at Bricktober. Check 'em out!
Cool recreation of the infamous Wall from GOT. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take a closer shot of the figs. I spotted Tormund Giantsbane standing somewhere there. By the way, what do you think of Season 8 so far?
Hogwarts Castle
This is a pretty good MOC of the renowned wizarding school from the Harry Potter series. The castle comes complete with the Hogwarts Express, Hagrid's Hut and a Quidditch pitch. I'm sure fans of the Wizarding World would truly appreciate this display.
Star Wars
This portion of the exhibit is composed of both MOCs and sets. The MOCs definitely look great in person so do the collections of them Star Wars Lego fans. It's cool to see all those Star Wars vehicles lined up and displayed beside each other.
The Lego Movie 2nd Part
The second installment of the Lego Movie was a hit last year which is why it's included in the displays of some of the events I went to last year. Some of the pieces are actual sets from the first and second Lego movies. There are MOCs of Cloud Cuckoo Land and post-apoc Bricksburg as well. Everything is awesome, right?!
Ninjago
As one of Lego's successful themes, Ninjago also has a spot in Bricktober 2018. I think most of the pieces on display here are from official sets from the Ninjago movie.
BrickHeadz
A lot of fellow Lego fans and MOCers are into BrickHeadz lately. The line is Lego's response to Funko Pop! figures which are pretty popular with toy collectors these days. The best thing about BrickHeadz is you can modify how official builds look or even make your own fig from scratch. A lot of MOCers are doing this lately and the possibilities are actually limitless.
Mechs
Present at Bricktober 2018 are the works of mech masters Lu Sim a.k.a. Messymaru and Lego Voltron designer, Lendy Tayag. I'm a huge fan of both builders and I'm really glad to see them showcase their works in local Lego events. They truly deserve the attention and recognition.
Mosaics
Arvin Encarnacion is one of the master builders we featured here at Nothing But Brick's Builder of the Month segment. He specializes in doing portraits made out of Lego. Really glad to see his works displayed at Bricktober 2018.
Miscellaneous Displays
Here are some of the other stuff displayed at Bricktober 2018.
There you have it, folks! Congrats to PinoyLUG for successfully hosting Bricktober 2018. To all the MOCers and collectors who participated, good job and please keep it up! Share your talents and your collections since it's the only way we can help the local Lego community grow.
Thanks for reading another entry here at Nothing But Brick, folks! Till next entry!
